Joys of Unlocked Cell Phones

Kristen Dennis's cellular carrier didn't offer the bright pink Motorola Razr she desired about 18 months ago.
And Andy Abramson frequently travels abroad and was paying too much in international roaming fees.

Both solved their problems with unlocked phones. Cellular carriers, particularly in the U.S., usually lock the
phones they sell so they work only with that carrier's network. However, unlocked phones are readily available
that can enable owners to more easily switch cellular operators and to get more features and services than
specific operators offer.

While unlocked phones are legal, cellular operators are under no obligation to sell them or to help you unlock
a phone you already own. However, there are numerous ways to get your hands on an unlocked phone,
according to Evan Silbert, president of Warlox Wireless, which sells unlocked phones and unlocks phones
customers already own.

The most obvious impediment to using unlocked phones is that the option is only available to those who
subscribe to cellular networks based on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technology.
In the U.S., that means AT&T Inc. and T-Mobile USA Inc.  READ MORE
Staying Connected with friends, family and

using a telephone.
It's  THE  debate of the day...land-line or cell phone?

I prefer to enjoy relaxed conversations and business interactions  on my land-line.
I can hear better and I find my land-line is more reliable.
It does not require a battery to use.
A land-line offers a mechanical link  to the address to report utility outages and
emergency services when the power is out.
A land line is required for private"life-alert" type subscription services.
A cordless phone will not work during a power outrage.
The base requires electricity to operate.
The base is the source which sends and receives the signal
for the cordless "home" phone.

Many people rely  on a cell phone only.
Experts recommend to have both a land line and a cell phone.
It is my experience, that a land-line phone connected with a phone cord works after
tornadoes and extended power outages.
Cell towers are sometimes in-operable due to power outage or are toppled by high
wind or earthquake.

Corded land line phones that do not require a/c power for dial tone also work even
when the power is out, an important contingency to build into home emergency plans.

The Importance of Storing Emergency Contacts
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS"ICE"

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other
than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.
Crime prevention experts warn us NOT to store numbers as "spouse" or "mom" in case the
phone falls into the wrong hands. Just remember NOT to give out passwords, and pin
numbers quickly over the phone. Do not rely on caller ID as fail-proof ID if a person asks for
sensitive information. However, if one day you cannot speak, you need to have at least two
emergency contacts on your land line speed dial and in your cell phone.

If  involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us may have our mobile
phone but may not know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which
one is the contact person in case of an emergency?
One solution: the  "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign

The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency
situations.  As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is
store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency
under the name "ICE" ( In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of
accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number
to call.  He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized
name for this purpose.  In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital
Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have
stored as "ICE."

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.
A great idea that will make a difference!
Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today!

National Do Not Call Registry
The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing
calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the
registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website.
You can register your home or mobile phone for free.
https://donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx

Scammers have been making phone calls claiming to represent the National Do Not Call
Registry. The calls claim to provide an opportunity to sign up for the Registry. These calls are
not coming from the Registry or the Federal Trade Commission, and you should not respond
to these calls. To add your number to the Registry you can call 888-382-1222 from the phone
you wish to register, or go click on “Register a Phone Number” in the left column of this page.

Your registration will not expire.
Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently
due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008.
Read more about it at
http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/04/dncfyi.shtm.
VoIP  stands for  VOICE OVER INTERNET PROTOCOL.
That means using an internet connection to make voice phone calls.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband
Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. Some VoIP services may only allow you to call
other people using the same service, but others may allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number -
including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. Also, while some VoIP services only work over
your computer or a special VoIP phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone connected to a VoIP
adapter. For more information visit:

Looking for an innovative Fundraiser?
MRC Cell Phone Fundraising
Easy as 1, 2, 3
Certified Cell Phone Recycling Fundraiser

How it works:
1.Sign up with MRC and start collecting cell phones and their accessories.
2.Call MRC for free pick up after you have accumulated 30 or more phones.
3.GET PAID!!  In most cases, you will receive a check within 2 weeks.

Remember:
■Every single cell phone has value, even if it is broken in half.
■The better condition that your phones are in and the more accessories that you collect, the more money you can raise for
your cause.
■Remind people to include batteries, chargers, manuals, and software with their donation.

After receiving your shipment, MRC staff will evaluate each phone and base its value on cosmetic condition, functionality,
marketability, if the battery holds a charge, what accessories are included, and if it successfully places calls. All phones will
be reset to factory settings, which wipes all personal information from the phone.

All broken, obsolete, or unusable phones will be valued at $1.00 per pound, excluding batteries and other accessories.

After usable and marketable phones are assessed for value, your check will be issued, generally within 2 weeks.

Keep in mind how profitable this fundraiser could be. One cell phone, such as an iPhone, could be worth up to $180. If you
were to collect 10 phones of similar value, you would make $1,800 for your organization.

Many people have 2 or 3 cell phones in a drawer at home. Nearly everyone gets an upgrade when their contract is up, and
don't know what to do with their old phone. They can feel good about helping your cause, and keeping harmful toxins inside
cell phones out of landfills.

DOCTOR ON DEMAND
Available at iTunes...download app

Talk to a real, US-licensed physician immediately! Use audio only or video to connect to a doctor and ask a medical
question. Great for non-emergency issues like mild infections, sports injuries, pediatric questions and short-term
prescriptions. $40 per call - only pay when you talk to a doctor. Free to sign up and no subscription fees!

Why $40?
$40 is slightly higher than most peoples’ co-pays, even lower in many cases, and a video visit is much faster and more
convenient than going into a doctor’s office. Think of the time you’ll save not having to take time off work, drive to the office,
wait in the waiting room, etc.

Here are some common reasons to use Doctor On Demand:
-Cold, flu, cough, fever, allergies
-Short term-prescriptions & prescription refills
-Urinary Tract Infection
-Pediatric fever, advice or other issues
-Vomiting/diarrhea
-STDs
-Rashes / bites / skin problems
-Sports Injuries, athlete’s Foot
-Smoking cessation
-General medical question, “Should I go in for this or not?”

An important note about prescriptions: There are some medications that are just not appropriate (or legal in some cases) to
prescribe over video chat. They include: controlled substances, such as narcotics/opioids, certain sedatives or muscle
relaxants, medications that require administration by a healthcare professional or training for first-time use, medications that
require regular monitoring by a healthcare professional, some psychiatric medications and oncology drugs.

This service is also not available in all states - we are available where state law permits.

In times of need, just open the app and have it ready! If you feel uneasy or unsafe, keep a finger on the screen’s
