Kathy B's Mmmmmoist Brownie Recipe
As a college freshman, I was delighted to open a package of these
wonderful mmmmoist brownies. My neighbor from back home baked
and sent them to me to warm my heart on a cold winter's day.
Thirty-five years later, this continues to be my all time favorite
Be sure to follow the directions!
I messed up a big batch of these because I forgot that
BAKING is CHEMISTRY .
Combining ingredients in the correct
order is important to the final results.
4 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
1 1/4 cup flour
2/3 cup shortening
1 tsp. baking powder
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 cup nuts (you may leave out)
1 tsp. vanilla
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease baking pan, 13x9x2.
Melt chocolate and shortening in large saucepan over low heat.
Remove from heat.
Mix in sugar, eggs and vanilla.
Stir in remaining ingredients.
Spread in pan.
Bake 30 minutes. Please watch!
Do not overbake.
No semi-sweet chocolate?
You can substitute:
One ounce of semi-sweet chocolate with
2 Tablespoons Cocoa
3 1/2 Teaspoons white granulated sugar
2 Teaspoons shortening or oil
**When you substitute, be sure to melt together the 8 Teaspoons
shortening with the 2/3 cup of shortening and cocoa, warm over low
heat until a smooth chocolate syrup.
Blend in to sugar slowly with electric mixer, scraping bowl often.
Add eggs and vanilla.
Mix in flour, salt and baking powder.
